The Hemi Engine Returns in 2025

Stellantis has been telling us for quite some time now about the end of the Hemi V8 engines. However, due to their enduring popularity, these large-displacement V8s always seem to make a comeback—and that’s the case once again for 2025.

Unsurprisingly, it seems that the departure of Carlos Tavares has a direct link to the return of the Hemi engines in 2025. The former CEO of Stellantis had heavily focused on replacing V8s with turbocharged engines with fewer cylinders or simply electrified powertrains. However, Hemi enthusiasts quickly voiced their dissatisfaction on social media over the past few years, which has essentially forced Stellantis to continue offering large V8s in most of its vehicles.

The Durango Takes the Spotlight

Hemi engine enthusiasts will be able to satisfy their cravings for V8 power through the lineup of the large Durango SUV. The American manufacturer has decided to continue offering two of the legendary Hemi engines that have been part of the Durango range for several years.

First, there’s the classic 5.7-liter V8. This engine, available in the R/T version, delivers 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. For those seeking even more power, the SRT Hellcat version features a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing over 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. It’s worth noting that the American SUV still offers the base 3.6-liter V6, which delivers 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

If you’re familiar with the Durango lineup, you’ll have noticed that the SRT 392 version has been removed for 2025. This model featured a 6.4-liter V8 engine.

The End Is Near

We know that retirement is looming for the Dodge Durango, which is expected to be replaced by an SUV called Stealth in 2027. It’s highly likely that Hemi V8 engines won’t be part of the lineup for this new model. This raises the question of whether Hemi V8s will gradually be reintroduced in the RAM lineup. Additionally, some rumors suggest that the new Charger could also offer a Hemi V8 in the coming years.
